Why Use Defy Wood Brightener Video 2024
We appreciate your input, so feel free to leave a comment below, ask questions, and pictures of your completed projects if you have them.
Wood Brightener does 3 things for your deck – it neutralizes any remaining stain stripper or wood cleaner, it restores and brightens wood to its natural, bare state, and it opens the pores of the wood. All 3 of these things are critical to getting the longest lifespan out of your deck stain and will save you time and money in the long run.
I know not to apply stain onto the deck in sun. Bur, can I apply stain on a totally overcast day onto a deck that would normally be in sun from 11am to 6 pm?
Yes, you can.
I stripped and brightened the entire front (faces north) of my house, which is cedar wood and it looks great! Now I am working on the side that faces east and the stain colors are drastically different! The front is a light cedar color and the side is a dark cedar color. I am contemplating applying the brightener again, but mixing it stronger in order to lighten the wood so it matches better. Is there any danger in doing this?
It will not work to brighten something more than it’s natural color. Also too much can have a reaction with the stain.
The wood is about 30 years old and has darkened due to age and because of the CWF that has accumulated over the years, so what would you suggest? Would it help to apply the brighter using the recommended strength muliple times?
No, you cannot lighten or lower the pH of the wood any less than neutral. The CWF must be removed first as well before using the Defy.
How soon do I have to stain the cedar deck after applying Defy brightner?
The weather forcasts that it will rain after two days for four more days followed by several sunny days.
Do I stain before rain or after rain?
The brightner has been already applied yesterday.
9/20/2020 : Defy Brightner applied
9/23 ~ 9/26: Forcasts rain
9/27/2020 ~ 10/5/2020: Forcasts sunny days
Thanks.
Stain within 2 weeks of prep and 48 hours after any rain.
Can I apply stain directly over wood brightner (w/o washing with water)?
You need both the Cleaner and the Brightener for prep and you will need water as well.
Is it necessary to wash off brightener before applying stain? In the location I am working in (portico eaves) washing with water is problematic.
Is the brightener safe for plants?
It is eco safe but best to cover while applying to avoid any issues.
Is it necessary to use a wood brightener before staining a fence as well?
Yes, you need to clean and brighten for prep.
I finished striping too late and had to use brightener next morning. Is it okay? Or I need to redo striping and brightener again? Thanks
It will be fine.https://www.deckstain.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-form
Hello, We used power and hand sanders to remove the old stain from our very old deck. Is it really necessary to use brightener? Are the pores already open from the sanding?
If you recommend that we still use brightener, our deck is already dried out so do we hose it down with water first and then use the brightener? Thank you.
No, sanding closes the pores. Best to clean and brighten for final prep.
How long do I have to wait after using the deck stripper to apply the deck brightener?
You apply it as soon as you are done with the stripping.
