How many coats of semi-transparent Ultra stain & sealer are recommended for new wood (PT pine) 140 SF deck? Also, about how long will the this product last before needing to be redone, and can I reapply over the first coat or does it have to be stripped?
Just one coat for new wood, so 1 gallon. Redo every 2-3 years. Clean and reapply as needed.
How many SF does one gal of Ultra cover?
COVERAGE: One gallon will cover approximately 200 – 300 sq. ft., per coat, depending on wood texture and porosity.
I like the color of light walnut with only one coat, but want the protection that two coats would give me. Can I use the extreme clearcoat for the second coat?
No, you cannot top coat over the stained coats with the Extreme Clear.
How do I prep new rough cut pine? Do I need to use brighteners and cleaners or just give a pressure wash and dry?
No need to prep rough sawn cut if dry and clean.
What is the best way to minimize the color difference of existing Defy natural pine deck and new repair boards? We love your products. They outperform other outdoor stains in NC! Have used for many years.
Sorry, but you cannot get the new boards to match the older boards. They will stain lighter in color.
I’ve been doing my deck in your defy ultra semi-transparent pine stain every two to three years for the past 10 years. I am thinking of going with a darker color this go around. Do I have to strip my deck of the faded pine before doing so?
Hello,
Utra has only been around for 1 year so we assume you mean the Extreme stain. Best would be to strip and brighten for prep.
Oops, you’re right. I was using Extreme. Any problem moving from Extreme to Ultra? Do I have to strip the wood or just apply over the old stain if I stay with the original Pine color? Thx
No advantage to moving to Ultra. You would have to strip and brighen of you did for maximum results.
I am looking for an eco friendly product, water based. Is this water based?
Yes, it is.
Beautiful stain!
