What’s the difference between defy extreme semi transparent and defy ultra. Using on cedar deck in northern illinois
Use the Defy Extreme for best results.
How long does it take to ship a 5 gallon bucket to Central NY?
2-3 business days.
Great stain for Docks!
Can you tell me the difference between the Defy Marine Wood Stain and the Defy Clear Wood Stain, other than the Marine is tinted and the other is clear. I’m wanting to know the difference in terms of the resistance against uv rays and mold and mildew growth. I’m wondering what does the Marine have that makes it recommended for docks near water; both say they have the nano-particle technology.
The Marine being tinted will last 2-3 times longer than the Clear. Mildew prevention is the same. The Marine is more flexible for wet environments.
Could you please explain by what you mean that the Marine is more flexible for wet environments. Thank you.
Just as we said, it is more flexible in wet environments than the Extreme stain. No other way to explain it.
applied defy marine stain 1 1/2 years ago. needs it again. do i pressure wash and apply? would i need 1 or 2 coats?
Use the Defy Wood Cleaner with pressure washing for prep. Most likely just one coat will be needed.
How long will your stain last on a deck that is full sun? and how many gals will I need for a 15 X 30 deck?
2-3 years. For amount needed, use the calculator to the right on desktop or at bottom if on mobile.
Best to use the Defy Extreme Stain. As for prep, you will need to remove the current coating fully first.
is it safe to use on dock with fish in fresh water pond?
Yes.
I have a dock and do not know what the person used to stain it with and it is wearing off and I need to restain it. Do I just pressure wash it first and apply your stain or do I do something else? Where do I buy the products near Atlanta, GA
You will have to remove it first. Strip and or sand. We sell online only from our website.
We will be staining a new wood dock. IF the Marine stain helps resist mold/mildew/algae, I’d think we’d want to stain all sides of the wood, ie: the underside of the dock as well. The only way to do this is if we stain the wood on all sides before we build the dock. But this will mean the wood won’t “weather” in the environment first. Thoughts/advice? Thanks!
Only stain the exposed wood after install, weathering, and prep. Do not stain all sides as the wood needs to breathe.
Install and let it sit 3-4 months before staining? What is the prep procedure prior to staining? Thank you.
Yes on weathering. Use the Defy Wood Cleaner and Wood Brightener for prep.
If I can only use one either Wood Cleaner or Brightener which should I use?
You have to use both.

Yes you can use the Defy Marine Stain. Nay color that you like will work. Prep first with the Defy Wood Cleaner.

You should let me put in pictures.
After researching a long time in the library of the world, the Internet . I decided on this. I bought a house on a canal off intercoastal in Florida. The doc was moldy and horrible. Even though he was a painter used the wrong stuff. He had like 5 coats of thompsons or similar. This doc does go underwater every October with the tides. So I stripped it ( but it wasn’t perfect because of the 5 coats and nontoxic? Chemicals that I tried to take it off plus I did minimal sanding. Worked great. After 2 years going to try to put another coat on top. The only thing that I would say is when my sea wall fails, and it will someday, that I will put in the fake wood. Until then, I am using this.
Noticing the availability of a Marine product, what is the difference between the Marine product and the water base product? I saw that water was also mentioned to clean the Marine product brushes so does that mean there is no Oil in the Marine product?
What makes the Marine product a Marine product and why would the Marine product not be recommended on all decks because of the UV protection since decks usually get lots of sun in summer even if covered with snow in winter?
There is not any oil in the Marine Seal as it is water based. The Marine seal is a different formula then the Defy Extreme. It is more “flexible” for marine conditions. It will have the same UV and mold protection as the Defy Extreme.
is it preferred to use wet on wet or one coat as listed on can??
Depends on the wood type and age of the wood. New wood and dense hardwoods will need only one coat. Older/dried out cedar or PTP would require the 2 coats applied wet on wet.

As long as all of the old stain is removed then you can go head and apply the Defy. Use the Defy Marine Stain.

Do two coats to be consistent. For this you would need about 8 gallons for two coats.

Yes use the Defy Marine. You can spray the Defy. Back wipe drips though.

You want to apply two coats “wet on wet”. The Marine has a the ability to flex more so than the Extreme. UV protection is the same.
