Coverage is about 200 Sq. feet per gallon. This is a 1 gallon container.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer is an extremely durable clear finish that helps prevent the return of black stains on composite decks as well as protect against the damaging effects of water, fungi, and UV radiation on composite wood surfaces. This V.O.C. compliant, water-based product is fortified with zinc nano-particles, a natural deterrent to recurring black algae stains. There are over 30 TRILLION of these zinc nano-particles per square inch that protect your composite wood by blocking out the sun’s harmful UV rays, helping protect your composite deck from color fade, moisture and fungal growth.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer can be applied to all natural and composite wood surfaces.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer contains zinc nano-particles that reflect the damaging Ultraviolet Rays from the sun. When you reduce the size of these zinc particles down to the nano level, they become invisible to the naked eye. These nano-particles are distributed at a rate of over 30 trillion per square inch of surface area to provide protection from the sun in much the same way as they do when used in sun blockers and sunscreen lotions. Not only will this help with prolonging the graying, but the nano-particles are highly resistant to mold and mildew, enabling you to retain the natural color.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer is available in a crystal clear finish.
DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer is designed for composite decking including:
- Trex
- TimberTech
- Azek
- Fiberon
- Evergrain
- Duradeck
- ChoiceDek
- CorrectDeck
- etc.
Before using DEFY Composite Deck Waterproofing Sealer, clean the deck with DEFY Composite Deck Cleaner. This will generally clean and restore previously treated surfaces to their original appearance. The surface should be recoated when graying initially starts to appear.
Works Great!
Hello, I had used Defy sealer with tint on my Trex Deck about 2014 or 2015, has the tinted sealer been discontinued?
There has never been a tinted version of the Defy Composite Sealer, only the clear.
Can it be applied on to the trex dock? Is it environmentally friendly?
Yes as long as the Trex is porous and not 100% solid plastic.
Thank you for your response. However, as per my second question. Is it ok to apply to a dock on a lake? I.e. would it hurt the fish and other aquatic life?
Thank you!
No, it would not hurt the fish but it will be messy if you drip it into the lake so do it over land or create a boom to catch drips if over water.
I have very hard water which is graying my new deck. Can I use clear sealer on my Trex Transcends deck and does it available in a “wet” look?
It will not work on your Trex Trancends as it is not composite but 100% plastic.
My deck is made of both wood and composite. Can this product be used to seal both of these materials?
Yes.
How do you apply the composite sealer? With spray or brush?
Spray and brush will work.
Specifically, what kind of brush or pad?
Any of these: https://www.deckstain.com/wood-restoration/applicators.html
Do you need to buy enough for 2 coats or with composite you can just add 1 coat?
One coat.
Will it renew the look of my 10-year old Fiberon deck? I wouldn’t mind a bit more color coming back to the sun-faded areas. Or do you have a product with a transparent stain that would work on Fiberon? Thanks
No, it will not enhance or alter the color. We do not have a stain for composite decks.
I just used Olympic Deck Cleaner, a bleach product to clean my 13 year old Rhino composite deck. Can I use Defy Composite Deck Sealer now or should I wait until next year??
Yes, you can seal it now.
Scrubbed and cleaned my Trex didn’t re4ally come up very clean, power washed it and it looks much better can I use this now to re-seal the Trex deck? And how is this applied
Yes, you can use this. Apply with a pump sprayer.
Can this product be applied over resin capped PVC decking?
If so will it seal out water?
No, it is for composite, not PVC decking.
Well the deck seal make the deck look like it is wet.
Will to make it a little darker.
No, it does not darken the appearance.
does the Defy crystal clear composite deck sealer peel over time?
No, it does not.
How often should you reapply?
As needed. Every couple of years is normal but it does vary based on your environment.
I applied your Deck Sealer on my Trex deck three years ago and have been very happy with the result. I am now thinking it is time to re-coat. Should I simply follow the instructions for cleaning and sealing or should I do anything different given that this is a re-coat?
Just clean and recoat.
can defy sealer be applied to new composite decking
Yes it can.
Gary Sulivan told me that you have a stain made for composit decking. I installed ChoiceDek on my deck 4 years ago. It has been nothing but trouble, but my issue for you is the fact that it has changed color from a nice rich harvest brown to an ugly orangish tan. Can the sealer be tinted, or do you have a stain that works well on composite line ChoiceDek
Sorry, the sealer cannot be tinted not do we make a stain for a composite deck, just the sealer.
We have a ChoiceDek deck. Will Defy sealer penetrate this material so as not to create a film that will peel?
This will work on all composite decking.
Hi: I want to do the right thing, but I’m getting wildly different suggestions from potential contractors:
1. Is Defy Sealer designed be applied to the floor of a deck made of pressure treated pine, with cracks?
2. If so, is it a good idea to prep the floor boards with Deck stripper and brightener before applying the Deck sealer?
3. Do you recommend applying a Defy stain over a deck that has been treated with Defy sealer?
4. Any other caveats and suggestions would be appreciated.
1. This is a composite sealer for composite wood. If you have a PTP deck, you would want the Defy Extreme Stain.
2. You always have to prep first.
3. You cannot apply a sealer over a deck stain or vice versa.
4. You do not need both a sealer and a stain. Just the stain.
