Defy Extreme Wood Stain has been formulated using state of the art Nano-Technology to create a level of durability that has not been available in a clear wood stain in the past.
The Nano Particles are similar to Sunscreen. When the Particles are distributed at a rate of over 30 trillion per square inch, they will reflect the sun and provide UV protection that has never been seen in a “Crystal” Clear Wood Finish. A clear finish that protects wood from graying.
This is a First in the Industry!

I just built a deck out of pressure treated lumber. The rain beads on the deck boards now. How long do I have to wait before applying Defy Extreme Clear? Do I have to wait until water does not bead on the deck boards before applying your product?

Hello, I purchased a Cedar Pergola kit from Lowes. The unit came with a “translucent stain for color only”. They also say as part of the warranty that I need to apply some sort of protection. Can you recommend something? I was thinking the clear but you’ve stated in other posts that your product can’t go over previously stained surfaces?
You cannot apply a coating over their stain. It has to be stripped off first. Leave it as is for now and in a year or two, strip, brighten, and stain with the Defy Extreme.
Easy to work with and lasts several years.
I am having a new cedar fence put up.
Is there any prep I need to do before application of sealer?
How long until I can apply?
Will my cedar fence gray if I use the clear stain?
See this about new wood: https://www.defystainhelp.com/prep-new-wood-for-defy-stains/
The Clear will gray over time. Use a tinted color for 2-3 times better UV protection:

can the clear coat be applied over extreme semi transparent stains
No, it cannot.
Is this product a penetrating oil that will not peel? Or will it peel overtime?
Defy is a penetrating water-based stain that does not peel.
Because it is water based stain does it repel water well?
Yes. it does.
Hi! I am restoring the Cedar siding on my house and I planned to use your Wood Cleaner, then Wood Brightner and finally this clear Wood Stain. My question is, since I plan to do a spray application, do I need to put plastic over my windows during the stain process? Or can I clean off the windows after the fact? Thanks!
Cover the windows when applying the clear stain. Pre wet and rinse when using the cleaner and the brightener.
I refinish wood doors and have used Cabot products previously. Usually two to three coats provides a nice satin look finish. I want to switch to a water based product and yours was recommended. Will it apply similarly? Can pigments or dyes be added to create custom colors?
The Defy cannot be applied over the Cabot so that will have to come off first. Defy Extreme in the clear when applied does not have a shine and you cannot custom tint it.
Same questions for using the Defy Extreme natural pine stain?
Can we apply the defy extreme clear wood stain a year later over top of SuperDeck Exterior Deck Stain Clear Sealer? What do we have to do in order to be able to do this or change to the Defy product, wash, sand, ect? The wood is wide pine.
Hello,
You will need to strip and brighten the wood for prep first.
My deck is cedar. There is no product on it currently. I like the wood better wet than dry. Will the clear Extreme stain adopt the dry or wet color. (I know when I sealed my tile it took on the wet look.) Thanks.
Natural Pine color would be similar to a wet look.
My deck is cedar. Same result, similar to wet?
Yes.
we have used Olympic Maxium semi-transparent stain on our deck and are getting ready to pressure wash and put on another coat of the same – can we use one of your extreme clear over the top as a sealer coat – it gets a lot of sun and Fades !
No, you cannot stop coat any deck stain with a clear sealer.
Will Defy Extreme Clear work on mahogany?
Yes.
I am hoping to preserve the natural look of our new cedar fence, so I would prefer a “clear” product. The fence gets partial sun depending on the season (maybe 2-3 hours/day). How long could I expect Defy Extreme Clear to last between applications? And if I chose to go with a semi-transparent for the easier maintenance, can you recommend a color that would be a bit lighter but not “orange” like most cedar-tone stains?
On a fence with limited UV, you should get about 18-24 months with the Clear. Tinted colors will last 2-3 times longer on a fence. Natural Pine is the lightest.

Two coats applied wet on wet.

What can i use.

You cannot apply Defy on top of the TWP.

You can use a sprayer. Not familiar with their tips. Wider is usually better.
Can Extreme Clear be sprayed on with an HVLP Gravity Feed Automotive Type Air Spray Gun? If so, which tip size works best?
Thanks.
You cannot put this or other clear sealers on top of deck stain. It will not penetrate into the wood properly.
Before finding your product I stained most of my wood deck. I would like to add a good sealer over this stain. Do you have a product for this? Thanks.
Wood should dry for at least a month. Then you should apply a wood cleaner and a wood brightener to prep for the stain.
Defy Extreme is not a film former as long as you prep properly and do not over apply. The Extreme Clear will last about a season. The Extreme in one of the three tints will last 2-3 times longer.
You can clean an re coat as needed in the future.
I have a brand new deck made of pressure treated YellaWood. My professional deck builder of 20+ years says that we can seal the wood now and don’t have to wait 60-90 days for the wood to cure as some sites say. What are you telling your customers.
Secondly, is Defy Extreme Clear a film forming sealant or does it penetrate into the wood pores? How long does it typically last before resealing is needed? Will it peel off as many other supposed sealants do that I have read about on other sites? When resealing do I need to strip off the old or just powerwash? Thanks.
The Defy Extreme contains additional nano sized particles of zinc oxide. This gives better uv protection.
What is the difference between Extreme Clear and the UV Clear?? I’ve got a new deck, cedar, and want the best sealant for it
