Defy Extreme Wood Stain – Now Available in Three New Colors.
Since it’s launch in 2008, Defy Extreme Wood Stain continues to grow in popularity. As such, Defy will be expanding the offering to include three new colors…Redwood, Driftwood Gray, and Butternut. The Redwood and Driftwood Gray colors will be a color match to the same colors that have been offered in the past in the Defy Epoxy Fortified Wood Stain line. Butternut is a much darker brown than anything that we currently have available. Darker browns continue to grow in popularity and this addition is a direct result of that trend.
Defy Epoxy Fortified Wood Stain: Redwood & Driftwood Gray
With the growing popularity of Defy Extreme Wood Stain, the movement of some colors in the Defy Epoxy Fortified Wood Stain will be discontinued. Redwood and Driftwood Gray will be discontinued and no longer available effective immediately. For those customers who have used these in the past, they can now use Defy Extreme Wood Stain in their place. Defy Extreme colors will match their Epoxy counterparts while offering improved durability.
Defy UV-Resistant Clear Wood Finish
The popularity of Defy Extreme Crystal Clear has also grown dramatically and therefore the Defy UV Resistant Clear will be discontinued. Again, as with the colors, for customers who have used the UV-Resistant Clear Wood Finish in the past, they can now use Defy Extreme Crystal Clear and expect the same crystal clear finish as the UV Resistant Clear provided with improved UV resistance and durability. The products are completely compatible with one another.
“Butternut is a much darker brown than anything that we currently have available.” But on your color charts, Light Walnut looks darker. So which is darker- Butternut or Light Walnut?

We have a deck about 150 sq ft. We are considering redwood for the floor and butternut for the railings and balusters. Is this a good match or would you recommend a different option? Thanks

Can you please direct me to a picture gallery so I can see decks/docks/gazebos in the various colors? I’ve seen a couple photos in comments but I’m thinking there’s got to be a gallery somewhere – those little thumbnails of the colors are not enough.

Thank you. I have ordered samples. I’m so curious about your reply. Yes absolutely so many factors influence colors, and how helpful it would be to have examples (with details:wood, color, stain type, etc) showcasing the colors.
I tried searching Facebook but the last post on the Defy Wood Stains page is from 2017. Is there another one? Only a couple of those listed the colors used. I also searched Pinterest with similar unsuccessful results. Fyi there’s a color swatch out there (maybe not done by Defy, see attached) that i believe incorrectly labels Butternut as Light Walnut if the latter is actually the lighter color.
With so few pictures to see outcomes of your product and a dead fb page, it makes me wonder if Defy is a legit company.

We have a 12 yo old PTP deck and previously used Cabot Semi Transparent clear on it. Was not happy with there product anymore but loved the color. I have stripped and brightened it and would like to try to get that same kind of color but better protection. I think it would be either butternut or light walnut. We have sampled TWP Cedartone and rustic. Cedartone was to orange and Rustic was a little to red. What do you suggest? We want to have the wood grain with a light brown kind of finish with lasting protection and minimal maintenance.

I have a 15plus year old white cedar topped deck that has been removed of all previous stain. i had to replace about 5 rottten boards. Will a darker stain such as butternut allow for some consistency of color between the older boards and newer boards? In the past, I have had to replace a few boards and within two years you could not tell which was which
CTMan, you cannot get new and old wood to match initially. Does not matter on the color. After a couple of years they will blend together.
